Our First ER Trip

Aaron gets really into intermural sports. Like, really into them. He likes them so much that it's pretty much the only hobby he has to compete with hunting. He's not super competitive, but he gets really excited for games - even for sports he's never really played before.

Yesterday, we went to his soccer game. Team Monkey Spit (thanks to Blake and Liesel for christening all of the 29th ward intermural teams on the way to the zoo last year) had a narrow victory of 1-0. Aaron played well, but managed to have an opposing player step on his ankle as he was kicking the ball. Nobody thought it was that bad at the time; the refs and the other team thought he was faking when he fell and didn't even stop the game (a fact Aaron made sure that all the ER nurses knew in triage later that night).

After the game and some dinner , Aaron's ankle was starting to really hurt. On the walk home from games and dinner with some friends, he had to lean on his pregnant wife for support. At that point, we dragged the Christensens and the Princes back over to our house to give Aaron a blessing. It's so great to have such wonderful friends :-)

The pain was still pretty bad, so we took him to the emergency room. Thankfully, it turned out to be just a moderate sprain. He has to stay off of it for a few days to let it heal, and they gave him a stylish pair of crutches to use. After some ice, a splint, and some ibuprofen, he seems to be doing better. He is still convinced that he'll be playing in the semifinal game on Wednesday (although his wife thinks otherwise).

Go Monkey Spit!

Glad it wasn't broken, but I've heard those sprains hurt just as much.
